Monday Morning Links, September 6th

by

It’s Labor Day and Monday Morning Links is back! Lots going on in this post – Sabres jersey news, prospect updates, a Kovalchuk interview, the Bandits schedule, and more – so go beyond the jump and check it out. It’s been a while and I’ve added a bunch of news sites and blogs to my bookmarks folders, so this is gonna be one heckuva morning links post.

SABRES
ICETHETICS – NHL JerseyWatch 2010
Chris has seen the new Sabres away and alternate jerseys, and he’s decided to spill the beans to us all! No pictures, though – Reebok gave him a big, corporate “nuh-uh” about posting images.

SABRES, NOT SLUGS! – Phil Asked, So…
I put out an open request to my fellow Sabres, Not Slugs! contributors after reading the Icethetics description of the alternate jersey, and carpandean was happy to oblige.

SABRES PROSPECTS – Deja Goose: Boychuk Arrives In Top Shape
Kris has a nice story on how much of a fitness freak Riley Boychuk is, and puts forth a little bit of forecasting for what his production might look like this season. Also, the site has a bunch of preseason action updates for various prospects.

NHL
PUCK DADDY – Deal before dawn: The NHL/NHLPA CBA amendment is official
Wyshynski covers the almost impossible-to-finalize CBA amendment that the NHL and NHLPA were working on and also offers up his insight into some of the finer points established by the resolution.

PUCK DADDY – Exclusive: Kovalchuk on the end of NHL contract controversy
North America’s favorite Russian hockey journalist Dmitry Chesnokov scored an exlusive interview with Ilya Kovalchuk after the gifted winger’s latest contract was approved along with the above-mentioned CBA amendment. In the article are Kovy’s opinions on the deal, his take on the rumored Brian Burke testimony, and more.

BUZZING THE NET – No, Nyjer Morgan did not snap because he played hockey
Neate Sager offers his take on the ridiculous story that was published blaming a baseball brawl on a player’s hockey past as he grew up in Canada. My take: absurd grasping at straws. His is much better.

BANDITS & NLL
BANDITS OFFICIAL SITE – Buffalo Bandits Announce 2011 NLL Schedule
The official site posted the Bandits’ 2011 schedule. The first four games of the season could be bad news if the team gets off to a slow start like it did last season.

BILLS & NFL
BUFFALO RUMBLINGS – Bills Add WR Naaman Roosevelt To Practice Squad
Brian has a quick bit of news for us, reporting that hometown kid and UB hero Namaan Roosevelt has been signed to the Bills practice squad. Over/under on number of games until schoddy play or injuries gets him his promotion, folks?

WNY COLLEGE SPORTS
UB BULLS OFFICIAL SITE – Bulls Rip Rams, 31-0, in Opener as Defense Posts Shutout
With former darling Turner Gill off to coach under bigger lights, I wasn’t quite sure what new coach Jeff Quinn would bring to the team. Holy crap. Four TD passes from sophomore quarterback Jerry Davis and the defense’s first shutout in nine years has me feeling good about the Bulls this season. It may just be one game, but I’m excited.

BLITZERS & SOCCER
FC BUFFALO OFFICIAL SITE – Where Our Boys Will Be This Fall
Nick was kind enough to put up a list of where all the Blitzers will be playing or coaching this fall during the college soccer season.
