Vulgar Statistics: Power Rankings Week 4

Good evening folks!  I am Criminally Vulgar, and while you may also be, you do not go by that particular pseudonym.  Here are tonight’s top teams:

This will be fairly straight forward and there is no personal bias here. I rank the teams in each conference in five categories Points, Goals For per Game, Goals Against per Game, Power Play Percentage, and Penalty Kill Percentage and sum them. The team with the lowest summed ranking (closest to first) is the best team in either conference. As the season wears on points will be weighted more and more as they will grow to become the most true representation of each team’s talent level.

Eastern Conference:

Ranked Too High: Florida – I feel kind of dirty that I may eventually have to admit that they’re kind of a good team.

Ranked Too Low: Boston – They’re really not good…but they’re not that bad.

Ranked Shockingly Right: Carolina – I think that maybe what Carolina has that pushes them above teams like the Devils, Jets, and Islanders with similar talent is that they have great chemistry.  Still, being bad at goal scoring, bad at goal stopping and bad on special teams is not a recipe for success.  Just ask Columbus.

Western Conference:

Ranked Too High: Edmonton – No way 1.50 goals per game is sustainable.  And when that goes, the ship will sink.  How does a team with all that young offensive talent wind up playing great defense?

Ranked Too Low: Detroit – Although I hope not.

Ranked Shockingly Right: Columbus – Averaging almost three and a half goals per game?  Take Steve Mason out back and shoot him already.
