Sabres In Traverse City, Day Five- BUF 5:2 NYR
PRE-preseason champions! In their first year participating in the Detroit Red Wings’ Traverse City prospect tournament, the Buffalo Sabres beat the New York Rangers 5:2. Lead by 6 points (3+3) from their top line of Marcus Foligno-Luke Adam-Zack Kassian, the Sabres used their forecheck early and often to wear down the Rangers’ skaters. Camp invitees Jonathan Parker and Phil Varone made positive impressions, possibly setting up AHL contracts for the pair. Varone especially looked ready to make an impact.
As per my usual game recaps last season, here is Eric of 3rd Man In’s “Overreactions” story for tonight’s game!
Being a later game than most this tournament, SabresTV does not have highlights or postgame interviews up yet. PointStreak has the boxscore for the game, but beware – there have been noticeable mistakes in each boxscore for the last three games.
With the Traverse City tourney all wrapped up, the prospects are returning to Buffalo to begin Sabres camp on the 16th. Most veterans and some youngsters are in town and have already been holding informal practices ahead of schedule.
