Down On The Farm: Calder Cup ASDF Edition, Apr. 23

The Pirates have done something this postseason for the first time since affiliating with the Sabres – they have three playoff wins. With one more, they can do something else for the first time since the affiliation began – win a playoff series. A big reason for this success is main man Mark Mancari stepping up and shouldering the mantle of leadership.

It’s all in a night’s work for Mancari (pub. 4/22/11)
Just like that Portland Pirates forward Mark Mancari road into town like a white knight, scored a goal and added two assists and then was off again before for the sun rose over Casco Bay.

Mancari, along with defenseman Dennis Persson, were recalled by the Buffalo Sabres on Friday as they prepare to play Game 5 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series (tied 2-2) against the Philadelphia Flyers, but not before making an immediate impact with the Pirates, who are embattled in their own playoff series against the Connecticut Whale.

The Pirates have a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series against the Whale with a chance to close out the AHL Atlantic Division semifinal with a victory in Game 6 on Saturday night in Hartford, CT.
