Down On The Farm, Apr. 7
Paul Byron and Luke Adam, already the heroes of the night, combined to score the game-winning goal in OT to beat the Monarchs 5-4. The win moves the Pirates in front of their rival by 4 points and reduces their magic number to clinch the division to 1.
Pirates only need 1 point to clinch the division because they currently have 100 points on the standings, which is the Monarchs’ maximum, so they need that extra point to avoid getting into a losing tiebreaker with Manchester.
Nothing to see here. Moving on.
It was a rough win for the Pirates, having to overcome two two-goal deficits, but they pulled through and bailed out their goalie when they needed to. It was much more than a comeback win last night, it was a character-building win that showed that the Pirates are done folding up shop when they go down a few goals. They still have three more games to go before the start of the playoffs, but it’s the kind of win that can power a team into the second season with a head full of steam.
