Down On The Farm, Apr. 6
Portland pulled out a 2-1 win over Worcester with Mark Parrish’s goal in the shootout and now have a 3 point lead on their divisional rival in Manchester
At the bottom of the playoff bubble, the 7th spot is technically still not locked down but it appears B-Senators will take it. The 8th spot is in a one-point battle between the Whale and the Sharks. This is significant because any one of those three teams could be the Pirates’ first round opponent. Toward the top, the Pirates can clinch the division title with a regulation win in their next game versus the Monarchs.
That game would be this evening at 6:30PM in the Cumberland County Civic Center. The Pirates will need to be in lockdown, playoff, desperation mode to avoid being taken to task by the Monarchs for the fourth straight contest.
After releasing Nick Tuzzolino, Mark Voakes, and John Scrymgeour and losing TJ Brennan to a three game suspension, the Pirates finally found ice time for fading Sabres prospect Corey Fienhage and signed former Florida Panthers draft pick Matt Duffy to a PTO. The questions at forward still remain with both Mancari and Ellis still with the Sabres. The situation at back-up goaltender may have been solved as well, with reports surfacing last night that Boston College standout goalie John Muse would sign an ATO with the Pirates sometime today.
Unfortunately, the Pirates still are not able to add Zack Kassian, Marcus Foligno, or Brayden McNabb to their roster yet as all three highly-rated prospects are still in their respective CHL playoff runs.
