Playoff Race Clusterf**k, Apr. 2
The Sabres are moving ever closer into clinching territory while New Jersey has managed to stay alive yet again, beating Philadelphia 4-2 on April Fool’s Day.
But can the Devils and also the Thrashers survive through the weekend? Any sort of loss for either team eliminates them from playoff contention. However, even if they manage to win, 8th place in the Eastern Conference is the only spot they can aspire to.
Both the Devils and the Thrashers have their backs against the wall with games against the Canadiens and Bruins, respectively. Meanwhile, the Senators and Islanders can deal mortal blows to the Maple Leafs’ and Hurricanes’ playoff hopes if the former teams win. Most importantly for Buffalo hockey fans, the Sabres face a big challenge in the newly defensive-minded Capitals with Jhonas Enroth the sure starting goalie.
