Playoff Race Clusterf**k, Apr. 1
The Bruins coughed up a lead late and lost to the Maple Leafs in the shootout 4-3, the Thrashers somehow managed to shut out the Flyers 1-0, the Lightning beat the Penguins 2-1, the Capitals squeaked by the Blue Jackets in overtime 4-3, and the Islanders pounded the Rangers 6-2.
Tampa Bay is now the fifth team in the Eastern Conference to punch their ticket to the post-season, while Toronto and Atlanta fought to stave off irrelevance. Meanwhile, New York has suddenly found themselves in Carolina’s crosshairs.
The only game featuring the Eastern Conference today actually has some significant playoff implications. If the Flyers win at all, the Devils are mathematically eliminated from contention.
