The Pirates are still in first place in their division, hanging on by a slim one point lead but also with the luxury of having four games in hand on the second place Monarchs.
Those games in hand are going to be very handy, especially since they’ll be burning two of the four today and tomorrow.
All that matters at this point is staying ahead of Manchester to clinch the division. They play Providence tonight and have the chance to get some measure of revenge on Bridgeport Sound tomorrow. I may be wrong, but I believe a regulation win over the P-Bruins eliminates them from playoff contention.
That could be a tall order with Mark Mancari and Marc-Andre Gragnani both up with Buffalo and Luke Adam listed day-to-day with a bruised sternum. That’s all three of Portland’s top 3 scorers. What may not be a tall order is Luke Adam making history by winning the Dudley Garrett Trophy – voters’ ballots for the award were due yesterday. The announcement ought to be made around the second week of April.
