All the Pirates needed was a win in regulation or OT to clinch their playoff spot. Instead, they did their best impression of the parent club and suffered an embarrassing collapse late in the game only to lose 16 seconds into overtime. The extra point gained did buffer their lead on the division to 3 points, however.
By collecting that loser point yesterday, the Pirates are inches away from a clinched playoff berth. A single point may be good enough to accomplish the task, while a win any way would definitely lock it up. Only Manchester poses any sort of risk to the Pirates at this point, and it’s only for the division lead.
There aren’t any games on the schedule today that really impact the Pirates at all, so breath easy, Pirates and (to a lesser extent) Sabres fans.
I was alerted to a story by Hershey Bears beat writer Tim Leone about his picks for the various AHL awards by @BanginPanger and lookie here – both Luke Adam and Marc-Andre Gragnani are tabbed for awards (Dudley Garret Award and Eddie Shore Award, respectively). Mark Mancari is listed as an honorable mention for the Les Cunningham MVP Award, which isn’t too shabby. I’m going to keep lurking about all the AHL beat writers to try and bring you each of their picks, if available.
