Monday Morning Links, September 27

It’s Monday the 27th of September. There was a preseason game on Saturday. There’s another preseason game tonight. You know what that means – lots of links to go around!

THE WILLFUL CABOOSE – 8 Things About Training Camp
Katebits offers up one of her patented “X Things…” posts detailing her favorite bits of training camp. If there’s one thing Katebits does well, it’s her “X Things” posts. Another thing she does DAMN well is her “Yearbook Day” series…here’s hoping this season’s goes up rather quick after the season starts.

TOP SHELF – Hockey is Back? Yay, Hockey!
Heather B. also recently posted some of her thoughts of training camp, some conveniently compiled while attending a session with Katebits. Those two blue and gold peas in a pod!

SABRES, NOT SLUGS! – Vanek is one of us
It’s time for Thomas Vanek to have a big bounce back season. That’s always a good reason to like a guy. You want another? He wasn’t a fan of the Slug. Respect, Herr Vanek. Respect.

BILL HOPPE’S MSG BLOG – Unheralded Sabres Prospect Enjoys Flying Under Radar
Another excellent piece from Bill Hoppe, this one about QMJHL graduate and goal-scoring maven Luke Adam. Keep an eye on Bill’s stuff – it’s been getting better and better.

HOCKEY NIGHT IN BUFFALO – Recap on the Sabres/Leafs Opener
Caroline has a recap of the Leafs at Sabres game, chock full of her usual wit. Puck bunnies, beware – she will cut a…well, you know.

SABRES HOCKEY CENTRAL – Postgame Thoughts: Leafs @ Sabres
Adam shares his opinions on the preseason home opener as well. More strong stuff from the SHC staff, which serves as a bit of a model for how I want to run Black & Blue & Gold.

PUCK OVER THE GLASS – Vlog: Postgame 9/27/10
Wonky date tagging aside, Shelby decided to go the vlog route to give to us her views on the Sabres win the other night. Hopefully this isn’t her last postgame vlog of the season.

Wyshynski bestows upon us the top ten fantasy hockey team names sent in to Puck Daddy, and some of them are pretty awesome.

PUCK DADDY – How Nazem Kadri is blowing his chance with the Leafs this preseason
It’s a double dose of Puck Daddy this morning! Wyshynski has a good read on how Nazem Kadri, the highly-touted Maple Leafs prospect, is ruining his chance to make the team this season. And this was the day before he was a -2 and on the receiving end of a Drew Stafford pasting in HSBC Arena.

BUZZING THE NET – Knight to remember for cabbie, back seat
Sunaya Sapurji, Yahoo! Sports’ junior hockey version of Greg Wyshynski, has a ridiculous story of the gumption two junior hockey players showed in making it to a game this past week. Dedication doesn’t even describe it.

THE HOCKEY NEWS – The Straight Edge: The story of an unlikely play-by-play announcer
Ryan Kennedy, lover of heavy metal and getting his dinner at Chef’s parmed to the nines, has an awesome entry in his Straight Edge blog about a play-by-play man from an unlikely origin trying to make his way in the business.

In the first game of the Jets’ tenure in the Greater Metro Hockey League of Souther Ontario, they showed their mettle and held on for a 4-3 victory over the visiting Sturgeon Falls Lumberjacks. The next night…

JAMESTOWN JETS – Jets Blast Dragons
In keeping with the franchise’s history of steamrolling opponents with high-scoring outings, the Jets wowed the home crowd with an 11-2 victory over the Powasson Dragons.

JAMESTOWN JETS – Jets Win Third Straight
In their first game away from the very friendly confines of the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena, the Jets trounced the hometown Vaughan Wild to the tune of 7-3 inside the Vaughan Iceplex. This gives the Jets a perfect 3-0-0 record to start the season.

BUFFALO BANDITS – Bandits Sign Thenhaus, Clancy
Last week the Bandits bolstered their offense with Brandon Thenhaus, a former Bandit most recently with the Boston Blazers, and Kyle Clancy, the 10th overall pick of the 2009 NLL Entry Draft.

Thanks for the mention again, and for finding that I screwed up the date, haha.

I was actually looking out for Kadri during the game on Saturday night but couldn’t pick him out. The kid is good on shootouts from what I’ve heard from Leafs fans but in every other area; he has been awful so far this preseason.
