Power Rankings Week 13

Now that we’re at the rough halfway point of the season, let’s see how I’m doing on my earlier predictions  (Current ranking in these things):

Atlantic:

  1. Boston (1) – Too good.
  2. Montreal (3) – Too sneaky (good at possession) good.
  3. Detroit (4) – Not too old yet.
  4. Tampa Bay (2) – Not too young and inexperienced anymore.
  5. Ottawa (6) – Too many offseason departures.
  6. Toronto (5) – Too bad at possession.
  7. Florida (7) – Too bad at most other things.
  8. Buffalo (8) – Too bad.

Not too shabby, although also not terribly difficult to call.

Metropolitan

  1. Pittsburgh (1) – Too talented.
  2. New Jersey (6) – Too good at puck possession.
  3. NY Islanders (8) – Too overdue.
  4. Columbus (7) – Too many good pieces.
  5. Carolina (4) – Too many bad pieces.
  6. Washington (3) – Too many deficiencies.
  7. Philadelphia (2) – Too much of a cluster….
  8. NY Rangers (5) – Too much roster dismantling year to year.

Yikes.  Although the division is such a mess, everyone has a chance, and everyone down to New Jersey (2 points out) or Columbus (5 points out) has a good chance.

Central

  1. St. Louis (1) – Too many good young players too perfectly fit into a system.
  2. Chicago (2) – Too much top six talent.
  3. Minnesota (4) – Too many good pieces added.
  4. Colorado (3) – Too many good pieces already there.
  5. Winnipeg (7) – Too many mid tier players.
  6. Dallas (5) – Too little.
  7. Nashville (6) – Too late.

Wow, give me a medal.

Pacific

  1. San Jose (2) – Too loaded.
  2. Los Angeles (3) – Too methodically good.
  3. Vancouver (4) – Too many bad teams in the division…still.
  4. Anaheim (1) – Too much talent.
  5. Phoenix (5) – Too little talent.
  6. Edmonton (7) – Too little defense.
  7. Calgary (8) – Too much failure.

Dayum.
