Stars and Black Holes: Sabres @ Senators: 12-12-13

12/13/13

Why are you watching?  At this juncture it’s probably a good question.  What is there to convince people to spend 2.5 hours, three times a week to watch this team?  That’s the really brutal part of this season, not so much that they’re bad, but that they’re bad in the most boring, soul crushing of ways.  Most of the young guys are playing elsewhere for the moment, so you can’t watch that.  They never score, so you can’t even enjoy a good 6-5 loss.  All they are is a bunch of players that never hit their (somewhat arbitrarily assigned) potential and castoffs from other NHL teams with maybe two or three guys that have some NHL experience, but are promising enough for you to not want to let go.  Well that was depressing.  Good on you for finding a reason, whatever it is.

Stars:

  1. Tyler Ennis – Playing like a man on fire as of late.  Another goal, seven shots, what did Nolan change?
  2. Drew Stafford – I know I said I was sick of these Drew Stafford looks good but does nothing nights, but last night I actually believed it.  Were it not for bad luck, bad shoot, and great goaltending he probably would have had three or four points last night.
  3. Christian Ehrhoff – I hope by the time the team is good, this guy still is.

Unsung Hero:

  • None.

The Robert Wade Niedermayer Memorial Black Holes:

  1. Henrik Tallinder - I know Tallinder is just a space filler until Ristolainen and Zadorov are ready for more regular minutes, but he’s been awful lately, and the good possession play has been there less and less (not to mention his QoC is pretty low too).
  2. Marcus Foligno – I give Foligno a pass often because he’s young, and because he’s being forced into a role that he may not have the skills for, but he can’t have nights like last night where he was just ineffective.
  3. John Scott – What do you say at this point?

Unseen Goat:

  • None.
