Stars and Black Holes: Lightning @ Sabres: 10-8-13

10/08/13

Actually we got a point.

The shot totals on the season are 149 – 99 in favor of the opposition, and heading into tonight’s game against Tampa Bay (lost 23-34), it was -13.1 per game at even strength.  That is the story of the season and largely why the Sabres are struggling to score goals.  As you would expect from such a disproportionate number with such a small sample size, the Corsi numbers are monumentally horrible.  Christian Ehrhoff is the best regular at a +30.7 relative Corsi, and Rasmus Ristolainen the worst at -27.5.  It is also probably worth noting that only Johan Larsson has a positive Corsi On.

Stars:

  1. Jamie McBain – Not much of a defensive player, but the goal and assist were nice.
  2. Jhonas Enroth – Another solid game all things considered.
  3. Thomas Vanek/Cody Hodgson – Two assists and six shots on goal for the latter.

Unsung Hero:

  • None.

The Robert Wade Niedermayer Memorial Black Holes:

  1. Mike Weber – Just got played on the Lightning second goal.  Drifted out of position and got caught watching…just an awful piece of defending.  Wasn’t great on the OT winner either.
  2. Tyler Myers – Sigh…
  3. Drew Stafford – Getting pretty sick of dissecting his game every night and looking for positives.

Unseen Goat:

  • None – They’re all pretty visible goats right now.
