Vulgar Opinions: Sabres Annual End Of Season DePresser (NSFW)

04/29/13

The 2013 Buffalo Sabres are dead, so there will be nothing more worth your time than this over the next several months.  And for once, I’m not even going to get into how Mike Harrington and Jerry Sullivan acted like a couple of petulant children who decided that when reason fails, volume is a solid backup.  What bothers me most is something Matthew Coller (IMO the best Buffalo media member in virtually every facet) brought up on Twitter.

No one asked about puck possession.

I’ll buy, for the sake of argument, that the media does want to represent the fans and hold the team accountable for its faults in the interest of making things better.  If that is the case, they should probably be asking about what the Sabres intend to do to improve something that:

  1. They were monumentally bad at.
  2. Has a whole lot to do with winning the Stanley Cup.

Instead we got the same stupid questions.

What are you going to do to build a winner Darcy?

Hurr durr, get good players.  Winners have good players so we should get some.

Etc.

If Mike Harrington and Jerry Sullivan want to act like asshats, I don’t care.  What bothers me more than their conduct is their stupidity, their lack of depth, and their inability to learn anything about this team beyond what they want to write (like, I don’t know scouting or prospects).  The average fan may be a complete idiot, but our representatives in the press probably shouldn’t be, especially if they act like they’re undertaking some noble cause.

While Ted Black and Darcy Regier probably didn’t envision the yelling match occurred, I bet they didn’t get a single question that they didn’t expect or that came as a surprise.  (And I bet Ted Black gets a bunch of those when he sits down at Blogger Summits.)

I’m all out of words.  Listen to the presser, form your own opinions.  Enjoy the playoffs.
