Vulgar Opinions: Penguins @ Sabres (2-17-13) Stars and Black Holes

Now that’s more like it.

Stars:

1. Thomas Vanek – Good to see him get back on the board.
2. Christian Ehrhoff – Another 20+ minutes, another two assists.  With 2 goals and 8 assists in 15 games, he’s quietly on pace for his best season.
3. Steve Ott - Had they won, he would have been a major reason.  Still, a solid effort.

Unsung Hero:

• Nathan Gerbe – Who turned in maybe his best game of the season.  Not saying much, but still.

Black Holes:

1. Mike Weber – Hopefully just an aberration, but he had a hand in both of the Penguins first two goals.
2. Jason Pominville – Not often that he has a bad night.
3. Jordan Leopold – Who continues to bring all of the negative aspects of his game and few of the positive ones.

Unseen Goat:

• Jochen Hecht – The contract was supposed to be a bargain.  Instead he’s playing down to it.
