Home Sweet Home – The Sabres Are Affiliated With The Amerks Once Again
From the Buffalo Sabres:
The Buffalo Sabres today announced they have signed a purchase agreement with the Rochester Americans hockey club. The AHL Board of Governors unanimously approved the transaction earlier today. The Sabres also announced their affiliation agreement with the Portland Pirates has ended.
The Buffalo Sabres will have no further comment at this time. The Sabres expect to hold a press conference in Rochester next week to set forth their plans for the franchise.
At next week’s press conference, it’s safe to assume that the organization will announce who Rochester’s head coach will be.
The only question left is who will fill the hole left by the Sabres in Portland. Chris Roy has some insight on that:
If this plays out, it’ll be a disappointing double whammy for Portland hockey fans. First they lose beloved head coach Kevin Dineen to the Florida Panthers, and then they may not even get to see their Pirates affiliated with his new team.
With Terry Pegula now owning the Amerks, Curt Styres will be able to fully focus on his passion – lacrosse. It’s believed the Knighthawks will be signing a new arena lease shortly to share the Blue Cross Arena with the Amerks.
