Game #71, Thrashers @ Sabres: Laid To Rest
Third time’s the charm.
After failing to deal the death blow to Toronto last weekend and Carolina on Tuesday, the Sabres have a chance to rectify these stumbles by delivering the killing blow to Atlanta’s recent surge back toward the 8th spot.
Three keys to the game are find the killer instinct, don’t panic, and press press press. The Sabres are in position to make the playoffs right now; the Thrashers are not. The home team needs to impose its will on the visitors to let them know there’s no way in hell they’re going to let them get any closer to their spot. Part of this is not lollygagging in the defensive zone and part of it is not wasting quality chances.
With Hasek in the house to drop the puck, the crowd ought to be charged. The Sabres faithful have been given a lot to cheer about off the ice, and they need to give the arena an electric atmosphere by cheering what’s on the ice. A strong effort is all they’ll need. A win in regulation tonight would likely lay Atlanta to rest.
