Game #70, Hurricanes @ Sabres: Swords Of 1,000 Men
The Carolina Hurricanes are in town tonight for the third meeting in their series with the Sabres. This is a serious must win for both teams in the playoff hunt – a Sabres win buries the Canes six points under while a Carolina win brings them within one win of the Sabres.
Drew Stafford was on the top line with Thomas Vanek and Brad Boyes in practice, suggesting he’ll return from his hamstring injury tonight. On one hand, it gives the Sabres a big, skilled scoring line for the first time in how long but it also sacrifices the chemistry Vanek had built up with Pominville as the former transformed into a playmaking winger. Hecht, meanwhile, is back out again with that nagging upper body injury. Could it be that borked pinky of his has come back to bug him? Enroth is also still up with the Sabres as Lalime managed to injure his knee somehow. It’s all together possible that he may stick around come April.
It’s high time the Sabres discovered their killer instinct. Mood in the arena will be electric and they’ve got to channel it in order to put away a team that they once chased but is now an irritating gnat in their playoff ointment.
OH HEY! Jeremy White from WGR has been pimping a new goal song for the Sabres that would be original to our barn – Tenpole Tudor’s “Swords of 1,000 Men”. Watch the video and then join the Facebook group if you’re on board!
