Brad Boyes Swaps Blue & Gold For…Blue & Gold

Broken by Chris Kerber, the St. Louis Blues’ play-by-play man, Brad Boyes was traded to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a 2nd round pick in the 2011 draft. He’s got 12 goals and 29 assists for 41 points in 61 games and is a +11. Boyes has a cap hit of $4M this season and next, after which he is a UFA. As of right now, Brad Boyes is the Buffalo Sabres’ second leading scorer.

Conflicting reports list him at center and at right wing. Seems like St. Louis’ stupidly-deep center corps (quick check by Nick Mendola has NHL.com listing the Blues as carrying 12 centers) was the reason for the shift to right wing, and my guess is he’d probably enjoy a move back to his natural position.

I like the move even if that all-important center stat – faceoff win percentagee – is a paltry 41.4%. His +11 is the exact opposite of Tim Connolly and a change of scenery may re-energize the former 43 goal scorer. Something to note about Boyes is that he’s cruising toward his fourth injury-free season, something Sabres centers have a problem with.

I get the feeling this isn’t the only trade the newly-emancipated Darcy Regier is going to make.
