Niedermayer Signs With The Sabres…No Not That Niedermayer

It was a tight race to break the news, but Pierre LeBrun broke that the Sabres have brought Rob “The Other One” Niedermayer into the fold. Reports have the deal at one-year, $1M $1.15M with playoff bonuses (courtesy of Darren Dreger).

He’s a defensive forward, which the Sabres have a habit of collecting, and the signing improves the bottom six but it also scrambles the forward chart. By adding Rob Niedermayer, the Sabres may be forced into trading away Drew Stafford to make room for Ennis on the top six. It also would put them in a predicament regarding filling the final bottom-six spot. Neither Kennedy nor Gerbe would survive on the fourth line, but where would they go. My thoughts are that Gerbe spends another year in Portland and Kennedy gets sent out.

One more thing – apparently Rob chose Buffalo over Edmonton (no surprise there) and Pittsburgh (damn). Kudos to you, sir, for choosing to come here instead of avoid here.
